BIO
Jonathan Montgomery Pollock (born 1982, also credited as Jon Pollock, Jonathan Pollock, and Monty Pollock) is an American record producer, recording engineer, photographer, guitarist, and museum exhibits specialist based in Chicago, Illinois.
Jonathan has engineered albums for The Bad Examples, Dean III & The Wagers, Depravos De La Mour, Dan Gannon, Fiona Grey, Joey Locascio & Joey DeFrancesco, Ryan Lofty, Michael McDermott, Mr. Singer & The Sharp Cookies, Sean O’Keefe, Outronaut, Ralph’s World, Tomorrow The Moon, Two Carolines, and Utah Carol.
His corporate clients include BMW, The Chicago Children’s Theater, Disney English Worldwide, The Huggies Corporation, Marin Group Productions, NBC Universal, The Shure Corporation, and The Wendy’s Company.
Jonathan has participated in large-scale exhibit installations at the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum and the Adler Planetarium. He has provided construction and acoustic treatment work for RiverBend Studio, Rosebud Studios, SHIRK Studios, and Waterdog Studios.
Jonathan began his career at age 17 as an intern at Rax Trax Recording in Chicago. Under the guidance of Rick Barnes, Jonathan's first studio experiences included assisting on sessions for The Nicholas Tremulis Orchestra, Nicholas Barron, and Fareed Haque. That same year, he was a member of the South Shore Cultural Center Youth Jazz Ensemble and the Ravinia Jazz Scholar program, studying under Ronald Carter, James Kaczmarek, Willie Pickens, and the great Bobby Broom. He received the Jamey Aebersold Scholarship and his ensemble opened for Oscar Peterson at Ravinia.
Jonathan attended Berklee College of Music in Boston and graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Production & Engineering in 2003. Jonathan's final project earned him the Brian Eno Creative Production Award for his version of the Talking Heads song Psycho Killer. While in Boston, he continued his studies in jazz guitar with John D. Thomas and John Wilkins. After graduating Berklee, Jonathan moved to south Florida and worked under the guidance of James Kalamasz at Spectrum Recording in Pompano Beach, assisting on orchestral sessions for famed arranger Charles Calello.
Soon after returning to his home town of Chicago in 2005, Jonathan began a three-year stint as founding member and lead guitarist of quirky indie rock band Unicycle Loves You. Their self-titled debut album was produced by Brian Deck (Counting Crows, Modest Mouse, Iron & Wine) and it earned favorable reviews from The Chicago Tribune, Crawdaddy Magazine, Filter Magazine, Flavorpill Chicago, Newcity Magazine, The NY Press, The Onion, Pitchfork, URB Magazine, USA Today, and Venus Magazine.
Since 2008, Jonathan has been in creative partnership with Grammy Award-nominated songwriter and producer Ralph Covert (Ralph’s World), and has engineered some of the most exciting and musically adventurous material in the Kindie Rock genre. From 2010 to 2014, Jonathan served as assistant engineer to Grammy-Award-nominated and Multi-Platinum-selling producer Sean O'Keefe (Fall Out Boy, Plain White T's, Hawthorne Heights). Jonathan assisted in editing the album Maybe This Place Is The Same And We're Just Changing by the pop punk band Real Friends, which peaked at #24 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Jonathan is currently co-producing a unique blend of Crime Jazz, Prog Surf, and Spaghetti Western music with idiosyncratic instrumental rock outfit Outronaut. He is also a regular collaborator with his wife, author and award-winning poet Amelia Cotter, contributing his fine art photography to her latest collection of poetry, apparitions. Together, Jonathan and Amelia own and operate Amelia's DragonGoddess Boutique, an online retail shop that serves as the storefront for Amelia's books and Jonathan's handmade incense and botanical perfumery.
